Apply for a Nigerian Passport

Please note that in addition to the requirements listed above, Applicants are required to bring the following documents and items to their in-person appointment at the Consulate General of Nigeria in New York. Please bring both the original and one clear photocopy of each item; incomplete documentation will delay further processing and issuance of your Nigerian E-Passport.

For easy reference, required documents are provided based on possible categories an applicant may fall into, including requirements for Passport Reissuance (for both Minors and Adults), requirements for First Time Applicants (both Minors and Adults), requirements for Passport amendments, and Lost Passport.

1. A printed copy of your online Passport Application Form.
2. A printed copy of the Payment Receipt for your Passport Application.
3. A copy of your Appointment Confirmation slip, showing your appointment date.
4. Your original, most recently issued Nigerian Passport. Please note that if it is not presented, your application will be considered to be a request for re-issuance of a Lost Passport.
5. A copy of the data page of your most recent Passport. The copy should clearly show your picture, full name, date of birth and other details to be acceptable.
6. A pre-paid, self-addressed USPS Overnight Express Mail Envelope with tracking number. This will be used to mail your Passport to you when it is ready.
7. A credit or debit card for processing of the Consulate General of Nigeria in New York's administrative fee. The fee is $50.

Here is a checklist of items and documents to be brought to the E-Passport appointment for First Time applicant minors at the Consulate General of Nigeria in New York.

Kindly note that the Nigerian E-Passport does not allow child endorsement and signatures. As such, Parents should apply for individual passports for each child, including infants. Here is the list of requirements:

1. A printed copy of the applicant's online Nigeria E-Passport Application Form.
2. A printed copy of the Payment Receipt for the application.
3. A copy of your Appointment Confirmation slip, showing your appointment date.
4. A copy of the Child’s Birth Certificate.
5. A copy of Child's Indigene Certificate from Nigeria or Letter of Attestation from the Consulate.
6. A photocopy of the Parent(s) Passport(s) Data Page(s)
7. A Letter of Authorization signed by both Parents of the Child. Kindly note that the names and signatures on this document must match those in the respective Parents Passports as well as the Parent names on the Child's Birth Certificate.
8. A pre-paid, self-addressed USPS Overnight Express Mail Envelope with tracking number.
9. A credit or debit card for processing the Consulate's administrative fee. The fee is $50.
10. Also note that in a case where both Parent's names are on the Birth Certificate but only one Parent has full custody of the Child, a copy of the legal document to this effect must also be provided.
11. If only one Parent is the sole custodian of the Child, a Court Order to that effect must also be provided.

6. Applicants born outside Nigeria must also provide a copy of either Parent's Nigerian Passport data page as shown on their Birth Certificate as proof of Right of Citizenship.
7. A pre-paid, self-addressed USPS Overnight Express Mail Envelope with tracking number.
8. A credit or debit card for processing the Consulate's administrative fee. The fee is $50.

Applicants who wish to make amendments to their Nigerian E-Passport may also begin the process on the Nigeria Immigration Service website. Such amendment requests may include correction or spelling errors in names, date of birth or change of Last Name for married women. To begin the process, click on the Apply for Correction of Data tab on the NIS website, sign in and begin.

Kindly also note that depending on the reason for the amendment request, legal documents like Marriage Certificates may be required for submission in addition to other general application requirements.

Applicants who wish to apply for reissuance of their lost or misplaced Nigerian E-Passports must do so by following the steps outlined in this section:

1. Lost or stolen Nigerian E-Passport cases attract a penalty fee of $350 made payable to the Consulate General of Nigeria in New York by United States Postal Money Order. Please note that only USPS money orders are accepted.
2. In addition, Applicants must submit their final application with a US Police Report confirming the loss of Passport. In order to request a Police Report, the Applicant must first receive a Letter for Police Report from the Nigeria Consulate in New York, addressed to the Police Precinct in your area of residence.
3. Applicants may apply for the Letter for Police Report at the Consulate General of Nigeria in New York by submitting the following documents between 9am-1pm on business days:
   
   1. Two color, passport sized photos of the Applicant
   2. A $50 US Postal Service money order or Certified Bank Check made payable to the Consulate General of Nigeria in New York
   3. All available evidence of the lost or stolen passport (e.g. a copy of the Passport Data Page) and/or proof of Nigerian Citizenship (e.g. a Birth Certificate or Declaration of Age document issued by the National Population Commission in Nigeria)
4. After obtaining the Police Report, applicants may then begin their application for reissuance of a new Passport .
5. In addition, Applicants with a Lost or Stolen Passport are required to bring the following documents to their in-person Appointment:
   
   1. A printed copy of the applicant's online Nigeria E-Passport Application form.
   2. A printed copy of your Appointment Confirmation Slip showing your appointment date
   3. A printed copy of Payment Confirmation slip for the application
   4. The Police Report for the Lost Passport
   5. A US Postal Service money order for $350 being the Penalty Fee for a Lost or Misplaced Passport. Please note that only USPS money orders are accepted.
   6. A pre-paid, self-addressed USPS Overnight Express Mail Envelope with tracking number
   7. A credit or debit card for processing the Consulate's $50 administrative fee.
