Emergency Travel Certificate

Emergency Travel Certificates (ETC) are issued at the discretion of the Consulate General of Nigeria in New York. They are valid for a one-way journey to Nigeria and for six weeks only from their date of issue.

The following documents are required in order to apply for an Emergency Travel Certificate:

Duly completed Application form which can be filled and submitted at the bottom of this page or by downloading and filling the Emergency Travel Certificate Form here.
Photocopy of the Data Page of the Expired Nigerian Passport
Two Passport Photographs. Applicants are requested to kindly write their name on the back side of their passport picture.
A $150 United States Post Service (USPS) Money Order. Please note that only USPS Money Orders are accepted.
Copy of the Applicants Flight Ticket to Nigeria. This should contain a copy of the flight itinerary to Nigeria only.
A Police Report. This should only be included in the application if the Applicant's Nigerian Passport is lost or missing.
Applicant's Birth Certificate and copies of Nigerian Passport Data Pages of Parent(s). This is needed for Applicants without a Nigerian Passport.
Consent Letter signed by both Parents. This is required for Minors under the age of 18yrs.
A self-addressed pre-paid USPS Return Envelope. Kindly note that this should be a USPS Express Mail Envelope. Applicants are also encouraged to note the USPS tracking number for use later.
