Authentication of Documents
The Consulate General of Nigeria in New York authenticates and verifies official documents, including marriage, divorce, birth, death, educational records, and travel documents such as Nigerian Passports issued in Nigeria or by Nigerian authorities.
Kindly note that all documents originating from Nigeria must first be endorsed by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in Abuja before being submitted to the Consulate for authentication. Please note that documents submitted for authentication that do not already have this endorsement will not be processed.
- Application for authentication or verification of document.
- Original and clean copies of documents to be authenticated.
- A money order for One Hundred dollars from the United States Postal Service made payable to Consulate General of Nigeria, New York.
- A USPS self-addressed, stamped, return envelope with tracking number. This should be used for all mailed requests.
Registration of Nigerians
Nigerians living within the Consulate’s jurisdiction are encouraged to register online through the Citizen Registration Portal.

Permit Letter to Ship Human Remains
Required permit for transporting the remains of a deceased Nigerian to Nigeria; issued by the Consulate upon request.
